Congratulations Joseph Rodriguez for being nominated for April Student of the Month. Joseph Rodriguez is a very talented and gifted student and I’d like to nominate him as MVHS’s student of the month. Joseph is a student in my Honors Biology class and he has maintained superior grades while also actively involved in school sports and activities. Based on Joseph’s grades, attendance, interpersonal skills, and class participation, I’d rate his academic performance in my class as exceptional. Not only is Joseph an outstanding student when we are in-person but he also participates in activities during zoom lessons, demonstrating a desire to learn, modeling leadership qualities, and excellent communication skills. His upbeat demeanor and can-do attitude brighten the classroom and contribute to him being a model student. Joseph has a number of strengths to offer. He demonstrates a very capable academic ability by being diligent in completing his assignments and contributing to in-class discussions and labs. Besides being actively engaged in Biology class he is also involved in other school activities, i.e. wrestling, cross-country, track and field. -Tatum Davis

Congratulations Ellerie Black for being nominated for March Student of the Month. Ellerie Black is a steadfast learner whose academic achievements far exceeds that of her peers. Although her time with the Air Force Junior ROTC ended last semester, she continues to set the bar high with her accomplishments. She was selected to attend an upcoming 8-week apprenticeship program at Lowell Observatory where she will be mentored by top scientists and engineers from the Office of Naval Research. The program representatives knew she was part of the JROTC Academic Team where she has already applied for scholarships; she is part of the National Honor Society; and is an active member of her class by serving as the Sophomore secretary last year and now the Vice-President of the Junior class. As such, she utilized her servant leadership skills to speak on two occasions to the school board on behalf of the Junior class in regards to student communication and online learning deficiencies. Not only has Ellerie made a positive impact in school, but she is making a difference in our community. So far, she briefed the Region Director from headquarters Air Force JROTC on unit activities, co-curricular events, and other upcoming events. Also, she marched with the unit during the township parade in front of the entire community and when the parade was over, she went back and picked up trash along the roadside. In addition, she participated in every fundraiser for the Junior class thus earning over $2,000 that could fund the Senior field trip and potential graduation costs. Overall, she has earned 13.5 hours of community service in three years and continues to ‘lead the way’. Ellerie is a high-achieving student who keeps her sights ‘very high’ and continues to move forward without fail. She has evolved from being a quiet, reserved student to now; an outspoken, emergent leader within our school. - Jon Sombrero
