INSTRUCTIONAL TIME MODEL SCHOOL YEAR 2023-2024

School year 2022-23 had the blessing of above average precipitation, however along with precipitation there were muddy roads and unsafe conditions. Due to inclement weather the school district closed for six inclement weather days. Using federal funds (ESSER) and to address unfinished learning due to COVID-19 the school calendar had 190 school days for 2022-23. Typically, the school district has 180 school days per year. With ten extra school days the district was not required to make up inclement weather days.

School year 2023-24 the school district has 180 school days. The school district has developed and will implement an Instructional Time Model (ITM). The ITM allows the school district to provide virtual school days during inclement weather days. Unfortunately, all families do not have access to the internet and do not have the opportunity to participate in virtual learning. For those students in virtual learning attendance will be taken during the virtual learning session.

Mastery – based learning packets will be provided to students that do not have access to the internet. Mastery – based learning packets are “packets” with teaching and learning materials with the intent to support skills and tasks the student has already learned. Some teachers may choose to provide problem- or project-based learning packets. See the teacher or school principal for more details about problem- or project-based learning. Attendance will be documented and recorded when the student returns the instructional packet the next regular in-person school day.

The school district will provide two public hearings regarding the instructional time model. The first public hearing is scheduled for July 26, 2023, 5 pm to 6 pm, at the Jonathan M. Nez Auditorium, MVHS. The second hearing will be August 1, 2023, 5 pm to 6 pm, at the same location.

Student and parent input is welcomed and appreciated. The school district would like to provide optimal learning opportunities during inclement weather days.

Sincerely,

Lemual Adson, Superintendent
