update the district on the following construction projects: 1. Main Campus Paving Project: This morning the district was going to start paving the main road and 2/3 of the SAC Parking lot. However, due to the cold weather (37 Degrees), the paving was postponed until further notice. In order for the contractor to pave the road and parking lot, the outside temperature has to be at least 50 degrees. For the next three days the outside temperature was forecast to be less than 42 degrees. The soil have been pumping throughout this project that the contractor has had to dig at least three feet down to remove this pumping soil and replace it with pulverized soil. In the mean time, the contractor will continue to pour its concrete and prepare the parking lot in front of the high school. The contractor will continue to bring in its AB to finish the grade in front of the high school. Once the contractor has prepared the remaining SAC Parking lot and Parking Lot in front of the High School, the district will open up the parking lot to the public. Once outside temperature is at least 50 degrees, the contractor will pave the whole parking lot and main road. The street lights will be installed on December 11, 2009. The district will open the parking lot next week. The district does appreciate your patience. 2. Energy Management System – Controls: The district has been upgrading its HVAC Controls system for the past two months. In doing so, this will give the district the ability to make temperature adjustments and also shut down the system in areas which are not in use from the control center. Currently, the district’s HVAC System has several deficiencies that the district’s mechanical personnel are repairing and the contractor is upgrading. This project will continue for another three months. In addition, the district’s mechanical equipment at the Middle School and High School are obsolete that we are now in the process of replacing them. We will continue to monitor the temperature in the classrooms and make sure they are comfortable for student learning. We are still making the changes and at times, the system shuts off automatically that we have to have our mechanical personnel re-start the system. Again, appreciate your patience. 3. SAC HVAC Upgrade: The SAC HVAC Upgrade project will not start until February 22, 2010. Currently, the contractor has ordered and purchased its HVAC equipment. The lead time for delivery on these HVAC equipment are at least 6 to 8 weeks. 4. Natatorium HVAC Upgrade: The Natatorium HVAC Upgrade project will not start until May 10, 2010. Currently, the contractor has ordered and purchased its HVAC equipment. The lead time for delivery on these HVAC equipment are at least 6 to 8 weeks.

MV FFA Sweeps Mid-Winter Leadership Conference…Again Fifteen of Monument Valley’s FFA members traveled to Payson High School over the weekend to participate in the Northern FFA District Mid-Winter Leadership Conference in various Career Development Events (CDE’s) and came out on top. Kalestinia Sullivan, Northern FFA District President opened the leadership conference ceremonies with great poise and composure. For the fifth year in a row, Monument Valley has held the tradition of winning Northern FFA District Creed Speaking Champion in addition to this being the third year in row we have won the FFA Information Contest. This year, Monument Valley FFA members expanded their horizons by participating in the Agricultural Sales CDE for the first time and leading the charge for the 1st ever Veterinary Science CDE in Arizona. Monument Valley FFA would like to congratulate Dawnae James (1st Place) and Emmerling Simpson (2nd Place) for their hard work and diligence in the Creed Speaking Contest. Jasmine Blackwater (1st Place) and Chelsea James (2nd Place) made MV look good by showing their knowledge of the FFA in the Information Contest. All 4 girls have now earned the opportunity to compete at the state level in their respective contests against 14 others in December at the State FFA Mid-Winter Leadership Conference at ASU-East in Mesa, AZ. The Agricultural Sales CDE will allow for members to showcase their talents in the ability to market and sale an agriculture product effectively by identifying their target customer and promoting the positive features their product has to offer, in addition to a written assessment, team activity and several practicum’s. Competing at the state level will be Lucas Poorman, Kalestinia Sullivan, Adrian Stanley and Jimmee Tsinnijinnie. Mr. McBride along with a few other agriculture teachers from throughout the state have pushed for a Veterinary Science CDE for several years now. With peaked interest, their push has become reality; this year for the first time ever AZ FFA Association will have their very own Veterinary Science CDE and MV FFA would not miss it! With the knowledge and more importantly the experience our members have this should be an exciting time for our team. The team will consist of Taralyn Adakai, Kendralyn Begay, Sarah Olhman and Lestinia Sullivan. |

| Congratulations goes out to Monument Valley’s Agriculture Education Program for being selected as the Association for Career and Technical Education- Arizona Program of the Year. This award is selected by a state committee comparing all CTE programs in the State of Arizona. The MVHS Agriculture Education Program will now be evaluated by ACTE Region V. There is a lot of people that should be recognized for being part of our team. Everybody from the custodians, Maintenance ,Advisory Board, NATIVE, CTE Assistant, the community and surrounding communities to the Admin. Team and especially our STUDENTS. If it wasn’t for these people we would not have the programs we do. This award will be presented at the ACTEaz Summer conference in Tucson in July. | |
